Snacks! My favorite word, snacks. It just rolls off the tongue. Snacks. How boring would life be without snacks. How long a day would be without a snack intermission. What a lovely disturbance, what a welcoming disruption of your daily routine. Now, how can we make it even better? Ah, of course. Fall. Fall and snacks go great together. If the words snacks and Fall sound like music to ears, here a few easy fall snacks you should try this season:
Dips, dips, dips
They’re easy to make. They make a great impression.
Dips are great in every season, but something about a spicy charred tomato dip seems to fit Fall really well. This Harissa Charred Tomatoes with Yogurt is hot and cold all at once. I see it as a light dinner/ snack situation or something fun and easy to serve at a party.
The instructions couldn’t be easier: roast the tomatoes until charred, then immediately serve over a bed of cold Greek yogurt. Tastebuds: awaken.
This eggplant dip is another favorite of mine. Eggplant is a hearty, satisfying Fall fruit, so why not take advantage of the season and make a dip that’s creamy and light smoky. I’ve served it at get-togethers along with guacamole, salsa, tortilla chips, and toasted baguette and it’s always a hit!
It’s grazing season
I love a good old cheeseboard. Every version of it: charcuterie, snacks, crudité. Serve me anything on a board and I’m happy.
Cheese boards are all about creativity and spontaneity. There’s no right or wrong, but it’s a good – and delicious – exercise in aesthetics. You can serve a cheese board anytime, anywhere, for any occasion and it’s likely going to be a success.
I believe there’s a certain structure to a complete cheese board, but of course these things are subjective. I think one that makes them special is if you intentionally get seasonal produce and ingredients for your board.
That way you get to experience the best of the season and they’re so easy to put together, it’s really the perfect snack.
Now, a charcuterie board is never complete without a spread of some sort. Yes, you can do jams and honey, but how predictable! How about adding something a little more French? This sardine spread is surprisingly delightful and incredibly easy to make!
There’s no pumpkin spice here, but there’s more to Fall than pumpkins…
Carbs, carbs, carbs
Sometimes snacks look more like a light meal, sometimes they look like lunch, sometimes I can’t tell them apart. Anything can be a snack if you want it to be.
This prosciutto goat cheese croissant sandwich is very elegant and very delicious. The flavors are bold: goat cheese and honey are a fantastic match and wonderfully balance each other out. The prosciutto is salty and rich, and the choice of croissant just adds more buttery richness to this rather simple and sophisticated sandwich.
For a more elaborate snack, these mushroom and zucchini wraps is only a matter of roasting the vegetables then assembling the wrap. It’s filling and healthy and all around a great snack, if you ask me.
A sweet treat
This list wouldn’t be complete without dessert. These caramelized miso bananas are so good you’ll want to make them all the time.
It makes for a wonderful, low-effort, warm Fall dessert. The ice cream is optional, but entirely recommended.
This mascarpone cream with caramelized bananas is a perfect dessert for one. Easily customizable, you can add some pumpkin spice to the bananas for a more pronounced seasonal taste.
More sweets
This is a Fall snack list, so of course there needs to be pumpkin! These cookies are delightful and can be kept in the freezer for a last minute craving.
I think one should always have cookies in the freezer, ready to go. You never know when you’re going to need them. Heartbreak, puppy commercials, a promotion.. These things are just around the corner and the answer to them is always cookies.
This sticky fig bowl is a quick snack that celebrates the best of the season: an ephemeral fruit, warm spices and the right amount of cozy and healthy.
More carbs
This is pre-hibernation season, we need all the carbs we can get.
These mini croissants with dulce de leche ganache couldn’t be easier to put together. Making a ganache requires no technique and baking a frozen bag of croissants is fairly easy, I suppose. Croissants are great on their own, the only thing that could make them even better would be a bowl of chocolate, so this is truly what dreams are made of.
These ricotta donuts are wonderful little treats to have on a cozy, rainy day. I hardly ever make anything deep fried, but these are always worth the oil and effort. Make sure to put a nice movie on to make the experience complete.
So there you got, plenty of inspo! If you make any of these easy Fall snacks, please let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear about your favorite snacks.
